Doc introduces the Delorean time machine to Marty and the reason he needs Marty's assistance. Doc hands Marty the video camera and they begin the experiment. Einstein will be the test subject as Doc remotely speeds the Delorea upto 88MPH and sends Einstein 1 minute into the future. While the Doc is explaining why he choose to make a time machine out of a Delorean, Einstein makes a dramatic return. Doc tells Marty about the day he invented the Flux Capacitor, the day he invented time travel! As Doc prepares to to travel 25 years into the future they receive some un-invited guests, the Libyans! The Libyans soon open fire as Doc and Marty run for cover, the Doc finds his revolver and aims but the gun jams. As he tries to escape the Libyans corner him and open fire leaving the Doc dead and Marty stranded. As they come for Marty he finds himself facing their fire. This time it's the turn of the Libyans weapon to jam and Marty quickly realises he has only one method of escape...the Delorean. He jumps into the driver seat and after a quick glance at the stricken Doc he speeds off. A chase around the parking lot ensues, without realising Marty activates the time circuits. Marty struggles to shake off his suitors and when he spins the Delorean to open clear road he pushes the car towards 90MPH. Within seconds Marty and the Delorean are at 85MPH and losing their enemies when, as the Delorean hits 88MPH. The trail of smoke and fire soon leaves the Libyans in a pile of rubble and Marty in a pile of hay!

Marty soon realises that something is seriously wrong when he finds himself on the Hill Valley Square reading a newspaper from November 5th 1955. He notices Lou's cafe in the corner, if he could find a payphone and call the one person who can help him figure out this mess - Doc Brown! Whilst inside Lou's cafe he finds Doc's address in the phone book and a couple of familiar but a lot younger face's - Biff and his father. After listening to Biff confront his father and the aspirations of server Goldie Wilson he follows his father down the street.
Marty soon catches up with George in the street, actually George is above the street, in a tree peeping at a young Lorraine (Marty's mother) as she changes clothes in her room. George struggles and slips from the tree into the road as a car approaches, Marty jumps to his father's rescue but is head by the car instead of George. As Marty is knocked to the ground, George makes a run for it. The driver of the car jumps out and calls his wife out of the house.
Before he knows it, Marty is waking up in his underwear talking to his mum. The only problem is his mum is the same age as him and barely recognisable. After he successfully avoids her advances, he is invited to stay for dinner. He takes his place at the dinner table alongside his younger mum, grandfather, grandmother, two uncles and aunt. After Lorraine tries to seduce Marty once more he quickly makes his excuses and heads towards the address he found for Doc Brown.
Marty finds the address listed for Doc and we discover that in 1955 Doc lived in a mansion. Marty knocks on the door and Doc quickly answers wearing an unusual contraption on his head. Doc quickly takes Marty and uses him in his latest science experiment - to guess who he is. Marty soon becomes impatient and describes to Doc that his a time traveler, sent to 1955 in a time machine invented by Doc and that he needs his help to return to 1985. Doc instantly refutes the story and questions Marty. Marty attempts to persuade Doc, firstly by showing him his 1985 driving licence.

Without plutonium the only source of power capable of generating 1.21 jijawatz is a bolt of lightning. Doc quickly remarks how you never know when or where lightning will strike and Marty responds with his 1985 Save The Clock Tower flyer "we do now"! .
Now they have a time and date for the lightning strike, Marty decides he can spend the week checking out 1955.
