Back To The Future part 2 synopsis
Back To The Future Part 2 continues exactly where part 1 finished. We see Marty McFly admiring his new truck when Jennifer arrives and they embrace. Soon after Emmett 'Doc' Brown pulls onto the drive in the Delorean time machine, after he reloads the new Mr. Fusion fuel contraption the three of them jump into the time machine and head to the future.
Doc has modified the Delorean so that now it can fly, so we see the Delorean lift into the sky and accelerate up-to 88MPH and into 2015. The Delorean in now in the sky along with the cars of the future, we see that in 2015 Hill Valley there is no longer a need for roads.
Whilst the three of them travel though the 2015 skyway Jennifer starts to ask questions about the future. Doc gives her a shot to help her sleep and brings the Delorean down in Hill Valley Square. Doc gives Marty some futuristic clothes to wear, which includes a pair of Nike trainers that tie themselves. Doc informs Marty about his son and how they need to intervene for the sake of the McFly children's future.

Doc informs Marty about his son and how they need to intervene for the sake of the McFly children's future.
Doc Brown heads off to intercept Marty McFly Jr while 1985 Marty makes his way to cafe 80's to take his son's place. Marty walks out into the 2015 courthouse and square to flying cars questionable fashions! As he takes in the changes he is startled by a fast approached 3D vision of a shark, promoting Jaws 19, directed by Max Spielberg.
Marty heads to Cafe 80's and orders a Pepsi from the virtual Ronald Reagan and waits for Griff to arrive. Whilst in the cafe we see old Biff who tells Marty how he wasted his life and his opportunities, as Marty contemplates this, Griff enters. Griff calls grandfather Biff out to polish his car and tells Marty to wait for him to return. While Marty waits he notices the 'retro' 80's video game Wild Gunman and two young boys trying to play (look out for a young Elijah Wood in his first movie role). Marty shows the boys how to play the game but the aren't impressed with having to use their hands and quickly reject the game. |
As Marty finishes with Wild Gunman he turns, looking at watch and sees his future son Marty Jr enter the cafe. Marty ducks and hides behind the counter, at the same moment Griff and his gang re-enter the cafe and approach Marty McFly Jr. Griffs asks Marty Jr if he's participating in tonight's opportunity, to which Marty Jr declines and the gang coax him into changing his mind. Marty Jr continues to say no and Griff becomes agitated and hurls him over the counter next to the hidden 1985 Marty. Marty tells his future son, who is now a little delirious to stay quiet and rises above the counter to confront Griff. Griff again asks the question, this time to the 1985 Marty who pushes Griff away with a strong no. Griff is surprised by Marty's aggression and calls him Chicken, as per usual this enrages Marty and he prepares for a fight. Griff takes a swing with his extendable baseball bat but misses Marty and takes out the virtual Ronald Reagan. Marty kicks Griff and takes out his gang before heading out into the square. He quickly comes across two girls who look they are skateboarding, Marty chases them and realises they are actually on hoverboards. He takes one of the hoverboards from the girls and begins the chase.
Marty is chased around the square by Griff's gang in a scene that replicates the chase from Back To The Future part 1 and refreshes Gradpa Biff's memory. Griff leaves Cafe 80's and takes a swing at the passing Marty with no luck. As Marty tries to escape over the water and runs into problems, Griff looks into the boot of his car and pulls out a large case. He opens the case to reveal a rather impressive and mean-looking hoverboard, he jumps on and his gang jonis him and they head towards the stricken Marty.
Griff and his gang approach Marty and he takes his third swing, Marty jumps into the water and Griff and his gang go tumbling through the glass of the courthouse. Marty races back towards the Delorean where he once again runs into a campaigner who is trying to save the clock tower. As they talk a news flash appears where the Cubs had beaten Miami in the world series. The campaigner then jokes that he would love to travel back to the start of the season and place a bet on the Cubs. Marty has a light bulb moment and heads over to an antique store where he finds a sports almanac with 50 years of sports results in the window.
Marty purchases the Sports Almanac, as he leaves the store Doc appears in the Delorean and calls out for Marty. As Doc parks the Delorean, Grandpa Biff leaves Cafe 80's and spots the landing car. As he reminisces Marty Jr comes bustling out of the Cafe, knock into Grandpa Biff. He quickly notices 1985 Marty stood next to the Delorean and Marty Jr heading into the square. The Doc asks about the devastation of the courthouse and Marty explains that his son made an appearance and through the plan off. Marty and Doc with Grandpa Biff int he background notice the headline on the USA today newspaper changing. Marty's son is replaced in jail by Griff and his gang.
Doc and Marty watch as Griff and the gang are arrested, Doc is joyful as he explains that the plan has succeeded. The Doc tells Marty to jump in the Delorean, Marty throws the hover-board into the time machine and grabs the Sports Almanac. As he grabs the bag the magazine falls out, onto the floor in full view of Doc. An unimpressed Doc grabs the magazine and argues with Marty about how he must not take this back with him as it could endanger future existence. As Doc goes to put the magazine into the trash they witness 1985 Jennifer being taken to her future home by the police. They now must intercept Jennifer before she runs into her future self. As they jump into the Delorean, Grandpa Biff emerges and we learn he heard everything and now knows about the time machine!
Doc and Marty follow the police and Jennifer to Hilldale and the 2015 McFly home. Here we see many new gadgets of the future as well as an aged Lorraine and George. Jennifer is confused and attempts to hide away out of sight of the family. Meanwhile Doc and Marty arrive in Hilldale, followed by an unwanted guest in a taxi-cab who will later take the Delorean for a quick ride.
Marty Sr arrives home and Jennifer hides in the closet as he takes a video call from Needles. Needles is attempting to entice Marty into an illegal transaction but Marty is skeptical until Needles calls him chicken! Marty completes the transaction and hangs up the call. The video phone quickly rings and we see Mr. Fujitsu , Martys boss. He has just witnessed the transaction and informs Marty that he is now fired and we see the faxes appear! |
Doc comes to the McFly home and rescues Jennifer but not before she bumps into her future self and passes out again. Doc, Marty and Jennifer return to the time machine just as Biff and the Delorean return before anyone knows they are missing! They return to 1985, drop Jennifer at her home and then head to the McFly home. Doc and Marty part and Doc says he is returning home to destroy the time machine, they say bye and Marty approaches he rather different looking home. The back gate is padlocked so Marty jumps it and climbs into the house through his bedroom window. He is surprised to find a young kid in his bed who starts screaming and the dad comes running in with a baseball bat. Marty scrambles and avoids the swinging bat before running out onto the street to abandoned police cars and the sound of gunshots.
Marty heads through the wrecked streets of Hill Valley, certain that he is in the wrong year. He sees a paper on a porch and examines the date, October 26th 1985. With that a gun is thrust before his face, Marty turns and it's Mr. Strickland who doesn't recognise Marty and informs him Hill Valley High School closed 6 years earlier. A grup of thugs drive-by and start shooting, Marty hides behind the porch as Strickland fires back.
Marty runs off and soon ends up in the courthouse square, only now the courthouse is a giant casino called Biff Tannen's Pleasure Paradise. Marty approaches the Casino and sees a Biff Tannen museum, a video outside charts Biff rise to fame and power and how he made his money gambling on sports events and even earnt the nickname 'the luckiest man alive'.

The illusion is soon broken as Lorraine welcomes him back to the 27th floor. Marty jumps up and see's his mum with her new 'assets'! Biff Tannen emerges and he and Lorraine argue about their three children, as Lorraine defends George McFly, Biff strikes her. Marty tries to defend her but is held by Biff's cronies. Biff and Lorraine continue to argue before he leaves Marty and Lorraine alone.Marty questions his mum, why is she with Biff? Where is his father? To his shock, Lorraine explains the his father, George died 12 years ago.
Marty is at the cemetery, trying to find the resting place of his father. He finds his father's tombstone and while he grieves Doc Brown appears and explains that Marty's father was murdered. Doc explains what's happened, how something in the past has altered the timeline to create an alternate 1985. Doc shows Marty that he found the Sports Almanac bag in the Delorean with the receipt and a piece of Grandpa Biff's cane.

Marty confronts Biff as he relaxes in the hot tub, as soon as Marty mentions the Sports Almanac Biff notions the ladies in the tub to leave. Biff and Marty enter into Biff's office and they discuss the details. Biff tells Marty that it was infact 1955 when old Biff came from the future and gave the magazine to young Biff. After Biff reveals all he tells Marty that the old man told him that one-day a crazy-haired scientist or a kid will ask about the Almanac, if this happens kill them. Biff draws his gun and Marty creates a diversion and runs. Marty escapes to the roof where Biff corners him on the edge. As he faces the same gun that killed his father, Marty jumps over the side of the building. A chuckling Biff approaches the ledge and peers over to be knocked by the door to the flying Delorean. In jumps Marty and to Doc's amazement, Marty informs him they must return to 1955.

Marty and Doc return to 1955, they hide the Delorean in the same place as before, behind the Lyon Estates billboard, Doc instructs Marty to follow Biff and witness the handover of the Sports Almanac between the Biff's and then get the book off young Biff before he can use it. Marty arrives at Biff's house and begins to follow him to courthouse square. Biff is having his car cleaned after the earlier manure incident from Back To The Future part 1. We see Grandpa Biff from the future hiding in the shadows. Marty jumps in the back while Biff argues with the employee. When Biff returns he notices Lorraine so he decides to pay her a quick visit. He returns to his car to find Grandpa Biff sat in the driver they seat, Biff questions him and they drive off.
The three of them arrive back at Biff's home, here Grandpa Biff explains about the Sports Almanac to a skeptical young Biff. While Biff reads his magazine Mr Strickland appears and confiscates the magazine. As Marty tries desperately to avoid his other self, he follows Strickland to his office. Marty quietly enters and tries to take the magazine off Strickland's desk, with no luck. Strickland leaves the office, throwing the Sports Almanac into the trash can. Marty thinks he's hit the jackpot, only to open the cover of the Alamanc and reveal a copy of Oh La La.

Now the moment has come for George McFly to stand-up to Biff, Marty sees this as the perfect opportunity to take back the Sports Almanac. We once again witness George landing that punch onto Biff, sending him to the ground. This time, Marty is on hand to take the Almanac from Biff. Marty heads towards the roof to meet Doc in the Delorean, only to encounter Biff's gang on the way. Marty uses the tried and tested diversion tactics and escapes the gang. They chase him back into the dance hall just as his other self is about to perform his Johnny B. Goode solo. Meanwhile Biff wakes and quickly joins the hunt for Marty. Marty sees the Almanac on the back seat but before he can grab the book, Biff takes it and checks the info compared to the scores being read on the radio. As Marty opens the passenger door to take the Almanac off the front seat, Biff notices him and swerves the car. As the Almanac burns, Marty looks at the box of matches from Biff's casino. The business name changes from Biff's Pleasure Paradise to Biff's Auto-Detailing, the business we saw Biff operating in the part 1 second 1985.
